  • Choosing a career in EMS has always meant that you’ll have more stress than most of the other ways you could make a living. COVID has added a layer of persistent stress to our personal and professional lives like nothing in modern history. Survey after survey shows that some/many EMTs, paramedics, nurses, physicians, leaders, and support personnel experience anxiety, depression, PTSD, and worse. The physical consequence of poorly managed stress keeps hospitals in business. During this fast-paced session, you’ll learn how stress affects your mind and body.  You’ll learn specific neuroscience-based techniques that you can use right away….even during the presentation…. to decrease stress and improve your resilience measurably. You’ll also learn what the latest science says about nutrition, sleep, and exercise actions you can take to change the course of your health for the better.
  • Mike Taigman, your presenter for this session, is the Improvement Guide for FirstWatch and the author of Super-Charge Your Stress Management in the Time of COVID-19. He’s been involved in EMS for over 49 years and teaches Improvement Science for the Masters in Healthcare Administration and Interprofessional Leadership at UCSF.
